Mercy Center Receives 1.5 million for MACC West from FHLBank Grant
Mercy Center for Women Awarded $1.5 Million Grant to Support MACC West at Sacred Heart
Erie, PA – Mercy Center for Women is proud to announce that it has been awarded $1.5 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP) to support the redevelopment of the former Sacred Heart School—the future home of MACC West. This transformational project will create 19 units of permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness and at risk for homelessness, along with an on-site community food pantry.
Mercy Center’s Sacred Heart project was the only local initiative selected for AHP funding in 2025, marking a major milestone for the organization and the community. This competitive program supports the development and preservation of affordable housing through partnerships between FHLBank member institutions and housing developers. AHP grants and subsidized loans help ensure that individuals and families have access to safe, secure, and stable housing.
“We are deeply honored to receive this significant investment from FHLBank Pittsburgh,” said Jennie Hagerty, Executive Director of Mercy Center for Women. “This funding brings us one step closer to transforming a historic neighborhood landmark into a place of safety, stability, and hope for some of Erie’s most vulnerable residents.”
MACC West is part of Erie’s broader strategy to address chronic homelessness and expand deeply affordable housing options, working in alignment with the Schoolhouse Apartments and St. Paul’s Community Hub as part of the region’s “Triangle of Services.”
