Mercy Center for Women Urges Community Support During Winter
The Mercy Center for Women has officially opened Brandy's Corner—a new 12-bedroom transitional housing facility located in the former Holy Rosary rectory. The center purchased the building in January and spent nine months renovating it to create a safe, supportive space for individuals and families.
As the first snowflakes blanket Erie, the chill in the air serves as a reminder that for many, finding warmth and shelter is a daily struggle.
Jennie Hagerty, CEO of the Mercy Center for Women, stated that facilities like this are essential, especially this time of year.
Both the Mercy Center for Women and the Mercy Anchor Community Center are currently at full capacity, underscoring the growing need for safe and supportive housing in Erie. Hagerty shared her first thoughts upon seeing Brandy's Corner.
The Mercy Center for Women has officially completed the purchase of the former Sacred Heart School property. The transfer marks a significant step forward in expanding their services and creating more opportunities for women and families in need.
Hagerty noted that the demand for their services has grown considerably and continues to rise with the ongoing shutdown and the delay in SNAP benefits for recipients have significantly increased the number of individuals seeking assistance.
