The Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority (ECGRA) awarded $1.6 million on Tuesday as part of their “Build a Better Future” Program.

The money will be split between 19 community organizations, such as the Booker T. Washington Center and Edinboro Market, who plan to use the money to improve their service to the region.

Half of the money comes from ECGRA funds while the other half is ARPA funding.

ECGRA’s executive director Dr. Perry Wood said these organizations play a critical role in the community and economic development of the region.

“We award grants on a quarterly basis, and it’s for various aspects of our community. And it’s all part of an effort to help revitalize our entire community and benefit as many people as possible. We want to change the trajectory of lives and have an economic impact at the same time. I think community facilities are a really important piece of that equation,” said Wood.

Another recipient at Tuesday’s event, the Mercy Center for Women, said they’re grateful for the support and the belief in their mission.
